THOT on the Playground: The Real Stories of Middle School Girls

Directed by Charlotte Arnoux and written by the 11-13 year-old members of The Arts Effect All-Girl Jr. Theater Company, THOT on the Playground explores dress code dilemas, truth or dare, rape jokes at the lunch table, and the 12-year-old THOT Patrol–  and dares to ask, “Why is growing breasts slutty?!” 40 minute performance followed by a 30 minute talkback with the actors and Katie Cappiello and Meg McInerney, founding directors of The Arts Effect and creators of SLUT: The Play.

The play is called Slut and it deals with the issue and the question at the same time. What is a Slut….why are young teenage girls Slutted. Why when a girl calls Rape… they question her veracity….she becomes a Slut in the eyes of her family, friends and community. Why are boys never sluts? Boys are expected to behave like boys…..Girls are expected to comply. The play opens up a pandoras box on the subject of teenage sexuality and how the rules apply differently to both sexes.
